Picture Perfect

When I was a kid, my mother had a pendant that – to me – looked like a desert scene. After seeing the first Star Wars movie, it became Tatooine to me, and I could almost see C3P0 and R2D2 making their way in the sand to the “building” on the left. Just a few months ago, I was wearing that piece (I wear it often, since her passing), and I happened to run into a gentlemen who recognized it as coming from his Gem Owyhee jasper mine! This is doubly amazing since I grew up on the East Coast, and now live in Portland. The mine is here in Oregon!

My Mom’s pendant ❤

Anyway, since the start of my jewelry making, I’ve been obsessed with Picture Jasper. Check out my collection:

This stone had tiny glittering flecks – stars – and I called it Milky Way – can you see the vertical light patch of stars above the desert? Sorry about the pic – I was superexcited about making this one and never got good shots before it was adopted. I have elaborate plans for some of the other pieces, like adding landscape-appropriate wildlife to the settings. Stay tuned!
