Mexico

I visited some ex-pat friends living in Mexico, just outside Guadalajara. That area, like Oregon, is rife with obsidian and opals, although they look different from ours. I couldn’t resist buying some rocks from the locals. Silver sheen obsidian and opal mounted in sterling silver. You really have to see it in person to appreciate the play of light. Fortunately it’s lighter than it looks!

Types of obsidian: A display at the Guachimontones circular pyramids. The light isn’t hitting it right, but Plateada (Silver) is the type in this piece. You can see a sliver of the sheen on its left edge.
